The following are a few suggestions for getting the most out of your Functional Integration Sessions. Keep in mind, that every practitioner works a little differently and may have different suggestions and or preferences. Take a Walk. After a session take a walk around the block before getting into your car. Pay attention to your movement and allow your nervous system and body to integrate. Weight Lifting - if you are lifting weights, it may be useful to discontinue the practice or reduce the weights by 50 percent during the time you are working with a Feldenkrais practitioner. This will give both you and the practitioner a clearer picture about what is going on with your movement patterns. You may want to consider adopting a strength training program that is more functional. Athletes/Performers - If you are an athlete or performer, let your practitioner know when your next event will be, so that they do not work in a way that could create major changes in your movement patterns prior to a big tournament or performance. Try to arrange your schedule so that you can work more intensively with your practitioner during breaks (see "interrupting a pattern" below) Interrupting a Pattern. A practitioner may wish to see you several times over a short period of time (2-3/week for a 2-3 weeks) to work with your nervous system to effectively interrupt a chronic movement pattern that is causing you pain/discomfort. Working intensively this way can be the most effective and efficient way to create lasting results. Afterwards, weekly or biweekly sessions will help support the changes. Awareness Through Movement - One of the best ways to support your Functional Integration sessions is to take Awareness Through Movement classes. Working with Chiropractic at the Same Time - If you are presently seeing a chiropractor, you may wish to finish with her prior to working with your Feldenkrais practitioner. If you wish to see both simultaneously, it is preferable to schedule your chiropractic sessions prior to your Functional Integration, rather than the other way around. |
